Through our ” Home by Home – The architecture of residential social services for seniors focused on the ergonomics of provided care” project, we have focused on revolutionizing the design of bathrooms and toilets in rooms for the elderly. Our research, in collaboration with Delpsys and APSS, aimed to transform these spaces into havens of comfort and safety.
We surveyed various residential services and found that integrating features such as wheelchair-accessible showers, non-slip flooring, and emergency call systems significantly improves the quality of life for the elderly. These elements not only provide safety, but also give residents greater independence. Our project emphasized the importance of thoughtful bathroom design, including consideration of seat placement in shower stalls and strategic placement of grab bars. These small details make a big difference in ensuring the well-being and dignity of the elderly.
The innovative bathroom designs and recommendations are thoroughly detailed in our newly released textbook. This guide is an essential resource for architects and care providers focused on creating bathrooms that meet the specific needs of the elderly.
