ABSTRACT:
The chapter introduces evaluation experience in Czechia, a country witnessing strong development of evaluation capacities of both the evaluation demand and supply sides during the last two decades. We apply several points of views to make readers familiar with the conditions for evaluations by introducing the general legal framework and specifics of sectoral approaches to evaluations in evaluation-leading sectors in Czechia. These are the EU financial assistance (ESIF), Official development assistance, education, and R&D. Practice in designing and conducting evaluations is an integral part of the chapter. It describes the use of evaluation in the public sector in the political decision-making. It also presents evaluation experience among civil society organisations. The last part of the text concerns the professionalisation of the Czech evaluation community. The Czech Evaluation Society is a small association, but a very vital one. It publishes its scientific journal, organises courses, and cooperates with other evaluation associations in neighboring countries.
